A Change of Direction

There is a saying that life is either feast or famine, and when you are a freelancer this is very true. Often there is either too much work or not enough, rarely do you get a sustained period of time when the workload is just right.

Recently I went through a bit of a famine. There was a bit of work, and one regular client kept me going, but there certainly wasn’t an excess of offers flooding my inbox.

Never mind, I thought – instead of twiddling my thumbs I should take this opportunity to work on some other ideas that had been floating around in the back of my mind. So, I started on these ideas and lo and behold other work began flowing in.

Some projects I signed up to a while ago suddenly needed more work, a couple of new clients came along and another client came back asking me to do some more work for them.

Suddenly I was experiencing the feast rather than the famine. It was great, but all those ideas that I thought I would finally get started on got pushed to the back burner again.

However, I have decided to continue with one idea that has been at the back of my mind for a little while. To begin with, I included in this blog some posts about my life as a mother to Monkey. I do enjoy writing about our time together, but I have decided that combining my parenting posts with this website about my freelance writing isn’t the best way to go.

Instead, I’ve decided to embark on a project I have been thinking about for a while and set up a separate parenting website. It means I get to keep this website to showcase my writing and develop another outlet for blogging about life with Monkey.

To that end, I plan to delete the posts I have written here about parenting and give them a new life on my parenting blog. I hope that those of you who have followed me here might come and have a look when it is up and running.
